Pomfret

Due to excessive deer browsing and after consultation with CT DEEP’s wildlife division and other Land Trust Association members, WLT has arranged for limited hunting on this preserve.  Given this preserve’s size, two hunters have been permitted to scout and hunt (bow and rifle) the property and will provide data to enable future deer population management decisions.  These hunters will comply with all CT hunting regulations and will not hunt after 9:30 am.

This wetland preserve on Taft Road in Pomfret is adjacent to Nature Conservancy land and can only be seen from the road. It encompasses the Nightingale Brook and its junction with the Lyon Brook, which then becomes the Mashamoquet Brook. It shares with the Gallup preserve a connection to almost 1,000 acres of protected land.
