Dunn Preserve

The 32-acre Dunn Preserve extends for almost 2000 feet along the east bank of the Quinebaug River and affords good views both upstream and downstream of the river. The forest cover is mostly Hemlock with a substantial thicket of Mountain Laurel and occasional Ironwood.

There is room for a single car to park at the aluminum gate on Lake Road. You can follow a cart track about 0.4 mile west down to the river, and the land trust property extends to the north. The walk from the road to the river takes about 15 minutes, but the walk back can be expected to take longer!

A permit to erect a major power plant on an abutting parcel was denied but “without prejudice” and so this may be a future threat. WLT participated in opposing the grant of a permit.
