The Three Bs Preserve

Fall 2024: Due to excessive deer browsing and after consultation with CT DEEP’s wildlife division and other Land Trust Association members, WLT has arranged for limited hunting on this preserve.  Given this preserve’s size, two hunters have been permitted to scout and hunt (bow and rifle) the property and will provide data to enable future deer population management decisions.  These hunters will comply with all CT hunting regulations and will not hunt after 9:30 am.

Bosworth, Butner, and Butts: The 69-acre Bosworth tract can be traversed by two woods roads and offers access to extensive Connecticut Audubon Society properties and trail systems. The Bosworth Preserve has extensive and impressive bedrock outcroppings and two vernal pools. Most of the preserve is covered by hardwood forest. Good sightings of warblers can be expected during spring migration. Worm-eating Warblers have been reported on the hillsides.

The 21-acre Butts Preserve was acquired by the land trust in 2008 and sits to the north of the Bosworth Preserve.

The 53-acre Butner parcel abuts Connecticut Audubon Society property on three borders and the land trust’s Butts preserve to the south. A loop trail connects to the Connecticut Audubon Society trail system, which is most easily reached via the Audubon trails. Upland forest, early successional shrublands, and wetland forests are present on this preserve. Three agricultural fields grow corn or alfalfa. Indigo buntings, scarlet tanagers, blue-winged warblers, and screech owls are some of the birds that can be found here.
